Enriched Air Diving (Nitrox)

This scuba diving course is one of PADI’s most popular specialties.

Nitrox is an enriched mix of normal air and oxygen for scuba divers, and it lets you dive for a longer time at a given depth without an increased risk of decompression sickness. It is not however a gas that lets you go deeper. In fact with Nitrox you have to be much more aware of your maximum depth. During the theoretical part of this course we explain why this is, and show you how to manage your enriched air gases so that you can dive safely.

Diving with Enriched Air Nitrox lets you safely extend your no stop time beyond the no decompression limits for air.
Diving with Enriched Air means more time underwater – but you need to be certified as an Enriched Air Diver to get enriched air fills.
Whether you’re into underwater photography or macro diving, at home or on holiday the PADI Enriched Air Diver course helps you get more out of diving by giving you more time underwater.

Minimum Requirements
Must have a minimum of PADI Open Water qualification or equivalent. You do not need to have taken a PADI course in the past, so if you have a BSAC, SSI, NAUI, CMAS or other qualification you can still take this course.
You must be over 15 years of age.

Course Content and options
Now available online, the PADI Nitrox Diver Course allows you to complete the knowledge development portion of the course in your own time and at your pace. By simplifying the learning process, the new program provides a dive-computer only option which can allow you to get back into the water sooner. The alternative method is to take and read the Enriched Air Divers manual before attending sessions with your instructor.

After some introductory theory you will learn how to plan and complete an enriched air dive. The course covers planning dives with Nitrox, the use of Nitrox tables, oxygen related diving medicine, preparing to dive with Nitrox, and the handling of tanks before and after diving. The course has recently been updated by PADI and there are now two main strands, the first is using tables when diving with Nitrox and the second is using your Nitrox dive computer.
